Outstanding Opportunities for All-Rounded Development

Chepstow House pupils enjoy opportunities to extend learning outside of traditional academia, with enrichment initiatives designed to maximise the potential of each child. We provide invaluable experiences that foster the unique talents and social skills of each pupil, including leadership, resilience and independence, which will benefit them in senior school and beyond.

House system

House System

Throughout school life, children’s accomplishments are recognised and celebrated. Our house system promotes excellence by rewarding achievements in areas such as academia, sports, and the arts.

Upon joining Chepstow House, children are placed in one of four houses. The houses compete with each other for house points, which are awarded based on members' accomplishments. Pupils are motivated to excel both in class and at events such as galas, debates, and spelling competitions. The breadth of activities for which points are awarded means that all children can participate.

School Council

School Council

Joining the School Council is a fantastic opportunity to develop key skills for school and later life, including teamwork, leadership and problem-solving. Children consider important issues in school life. Children work together with other representatives to initiate plans and present solutions. Examples of previous initiatives include helping to design the school lunch menu, introducing new clubs, and establishing a playground buddy system.

At the beginning of each term, every class elects their School Council representative. Meetings are held every half term and are chaired by our Year 6 leaders. Minutes from meetings are recorded and distributed to each class and the Senior Leadership Team for discussion.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

In addition to School Council, older pupils also have the opportunity to take on further responsibilities. Our Head and Deputy Head Boys and Girls, and Sport and House Captains, develop leadership skills in their roles while representing our broad school community. Other children take up roles that foster organisational skills and awareness of specific subjects, such as our Junior Travel Ambassadors, who promote active road safety through talks and surveys, and contribute to the school travel plan.

Eco Warriors

Eco Warriors

Chepstow House is a proud advocate of youth-led environmental action and education, and holds the coveted Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation. If elected to our school’s Eco Committee, children address relevant environmental issues that require them to develop their problem-solving, communication and organisational skills – all of which are applicable in other areas of life. Witnessing the projects they have worked on being realised is a profound experience that builds confidence and inspires the children to become changemakers in the school and community.

The Eco Committee meet every half term to discuss their initiatives and progress. Though the agenda is set by the children, visitors are often invited to join and offer their expertise. Each year, the committee carry out an environmental review to evaluate the school’s strengths and weaknesses, then create an action plan with targets for the upcoming year.

Diversity Council

Diversity Council

As members of the Diversity Council, children can contribute to the positive development of our rich school community. Children expand their knowledge and understanding of diversity by championing important initiatives, such as the promotion of equal opportunities and supporting diversity education in our school curriculum. Collaboration and teamwork are encouraged, as the children have to engage with other Diversity Council members, including pupils, staff and parents.

Charities

When children are taught about charitable giving, they learn how to take care of others, be respectful, and develop empathy, kindness and compassion. Through our active, ongoing support for local and global charities, Chepstow House not only bolsters these worthy causes but also promotes pupils’ awareness and understanding of the wider world.

As part of our giving efforts, we introduce learners to a range of public institutions and services in England and their local community. In addition, fundraising events for both parents and pupils take place throughout the school year.
