This week year 2 had a fantastic time exploring the National Portrait Gallery. Having arrived at the Gallery, they had some time to look at the first few rooms before spending time with a member of the Gallery staff. She showed the students some beautiful paintings that were linked to their geography topic, ‘islands’. They were encouraged to look closely at the different colours and brushstrokes the artist used, and then they put themselves into the paintings and imagined they were really there! Finally, they spent some time looking at the paintings of Van Gogh, Monet and Stubbs. The students showed fantastic artistic skills by completing some wonderful sketches of these famous works. What a great day out!
